The Foreign Press Association of Greece extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Chris Eliou, a longtime member who passed away on June 12th at the age of 91.

Chris Eliou had been a member of the FPA since 1962 and served on its board.

He began his journalism career in 1954 as a reporter for the Jerusalem Post. He then served as a Jerusalem correspondent for five major South African newspapers and the American news agency National Catholic Welfare. From 1961, he successively served as an Athens correspondent for the Associated Press, the Daily Mail, the Times of London, the National Enquirer, and the CBS television network. From 1972 until his retirement, he was the head of the English Bulletin at the Athens News Agency.

Η Ένωση Ανταποκριτών Ξένου Τύπου Ελλάδος εκφράζει τα θερμά της συλλυπητήρια στην οικογένεια και τους οικείους του μέλους της Χρήστου (Κρις) Ηλιού, που απεβίωσε στις 12/6 σε ηλικία 91 ετών.

Ο Χρήστος (Κρις) Ηλιού ήταν μέλος της ΕΑΞΤ από το 1962 και διετέλεσε μέλος Δ.Σ. της ΕΑΞΤ.

Ξεκίνησε τη δημοσιογραφική του σταδιοδρομία το 1954 ως ρεπόρτερ στην εφημερίδα «JerusalemPost». Στη συνέχεια υπήρξε ανταποκριτής στα Ιερoσόλυμα πέντε μεγάλων εφημερίδων της Νοτίου Αφρικής, του αμερικανικού πρακτορείου ειδήσεων «National Catholic Welfare» ενώ από το 1961 διετέλεσε διαδοχικά ανταποκριτής στην Αθήνα των «Associated Press», «Daily Mail», «Times» του Λονδίνου, «National Enquirer» και του τηλεοπτικού δικτύου «CBS». Από το 1972 και έως τη συνταξιοδότησή του διετέλεσε για χρόνια επικεφαλής του Αγγλικού Δελτίου στο Αθηναϊκό Πρακτορείο Ειδήσεων.

Με απέραντη θλίψη αποχαιρετούμε τον συνάδελφό μας.
